Tuesday 11 May Atuona, Hiva Oa

Hiva Oa anchorage
After 24 days without internet we are connected once more, able to phone home with Skype and send emails to tell everyone we made the crossing safely.

It was a day sail north to the bigger island of Hiva Oa in order to complete customs clearance into French Polynesia. Atuona has a small harbour behind a breakwater to protect it from the prevailing swell. The method for anchoring in this small area with winds that can come from any direction is to lay your main anchor as usual and then to take a line from the stern of the boat with another anchor on it and take that behind in the dinghy to hold our back end. We are now held forward and backwards like all the other boats and can't swing into each other.
