It was an early start to walk over the high hill to the village in the next bay. David and I love to walk and we don't get as much hard exercise as we are used to so any chance to get off and get going is looked forward to. Our walk today took us along the beach and then a hearty 45 minute climb up an ancient pack horse path to a col and then a 45 minute walk down the other side to the village. The path must be very old. At the side there are rocks marking the way and with trees overhead there is some shade from the sun. From the top there was a wonderful view back over the anchorage.
In the village we went to the one shop in search of baguettes, mais non. All sold. Instead we bought 2 fresh football sized grapefruit. We knew they were fresh because the shop owner picked them off the tree for us. A stroll along the beach front past ancient carved stone figures. This is the copy book south Pacific. It's a very special place and we feel fortunate to be guests of these wonderful people.
After a delicious lunch at a waterfront café we started our return trip. A full stomach isn't conducive to climbing a steep slope in the afternoon sun, or we were tired and laden with our grapefruit. It may also have been the double chocolate Magnum that made us feel full.
We made good time getting back with time to go snorkelling before the sun dropped behind the hills.
