Thursday 2 June Motored to Viani bay

Blue skies, flat seas, no wind but a desire to move on. Today we motored 30 miles to Viani Bay east along the south side of Vanua Levu. On the way we landed a small dorado which leapt off the boat as we were trying to get a line around the tail. Just as well because it was on the small side – better to leave it to fully mature. The next dorado was a full size mature and it got gaffed so no chance of loosing him. As David was doing the filleting on the rear deck we passed a small pod of minke whales.
We followed Stray Kitty into the bay and anchored a short way off. Tahina followed us in and parked in the same part of the bay. We all gravitate together like bees around a honey pot. We were having a 'we're here Bloody Mary' on Stray Kitty when Dick from Geramar brought along the local dive guide, Jack Fisher, to introduce him and to organise some diving for tomorrow. Jack was a dive guide and master for many years and now earns a living taking yachties out to the reef, Rainbow Reef, where he shows us where to anchor and then provides surface cover in our dinghies. David and I came for diving and that's what we're going to do.
In the evening the Stray Kitties came over for dinner of the dorado we caught on the way here. After dinner we sat on the aft deck and gazed up at a sky littered with stars. Sure is pretty here.
