The passage today was 55 miles which meant a crack of dawn sail to reach Koro in good light to see our through the reefs into the anchorage. The wind was perfect for a fast downwind sail and we (still travelling with the Stray Kitties) reached the entrance to the anchorage mentioning in our cruising guides early. With the direction of the wind today it wasn't protected so we opted to take a chance on a reported anchorage on the west side, Dere Bay, which would be better in these conditions.
The plus for hurrah for us in going the extra mile was we caught a dorado; only the second fish we've landed in the month we've been in Fiji.
Dere, pronounced Ndere, Bay was a pleasant surprise. Clear entry in, a long white beach, two small resorts and with quite a community of expat houses in the hills surrounding and three fine jetty's extending into the bay. We dropped the hook in 10m in coral. You know it's coral by the hard grating sound as the chain pulls over it.
While Chris and Christine went ashore to scope the layout, David filleted the dorado and we had gin and tonics and sashimi ready for all when they were passing on their way home.
