From
our anchorage off Seaworld we took the dinghy south down the channel
to the Southport Yacht Club in search of somewhere to leave the
dinghy while we went foraging for victuals. Finding somewhere to tie
up the dinghy was almost impossible – the YC allowed us to use
their jetty only if we were visiting their chandlery or restaurant.
Although we were able to bin our bag of rubbish.
A
local pointed out a building across the water called Australia Fair.
This is where we should have gone; food courts, two large
supermarkets and all the general department stores. Lots of places to
empty the purse and fill the bag and as a bonus we were able to lock
the dinghy to a new pier a short walk through the park away. Walking
through the park was fun too; there are sound sculptures along the
pathways; small steel and LED towers with motion activated lights and
tunes. We were like kids jumping back and forward in front of them.
Apart
from our brief shopping trip we didn't see much of high rise
Southport. We missed Palazzo Versace the gold and glitz OTT hotel
which is featured in the show 'I'm a Celebrity etc' and the rest of
Miami on the Gold Coast.
