In
an ideal world we'd have completed our visit to the Whitsunday island
area and would have taken advantage of the steady south easterlies to
move on to Magnetic Island. In an ideal world the letter we're
waiting for from the UK would have been delivered in less than 10
days. However, our letter, due for delivery to the Whitsunday
Sailing Club, is taking longer than expected and we're hanging around
with time to kill.

We
returned from Nara inlet to Airlie Beach and the sailing club late
Thursday afternoon hoping we could pick up the post fro Friday's
delivery and be able to leave Saturday morning. No such luck, no
letter and a weekend spare before the next delivery on Monday. We
chose to go just 5 miles north to Woodwark bay which afforded good
protection from a strong southerly wind forecast for the weekend.
When we arrived there were 5 boats in the very large bay and hills to
the south to give sheltered water. Chilli Heat had arrived earlier
and we anchored a respectable distance away. It is wonderfully quiet
with one large house, a select rental which runs to AU$4,400 / £2,800
per night for a couple – a bit beyond our cruising budget.
This
afternoon we took a walk on the beach aware of the signs warning of
private property and do not venture above the high water mark on
penalty of prosecution. At least the property dogs were friendly and
joined us on our beach walk (below the high water line). Tomorrow
we'll go back to Airlie, ever optimistic on Australia Post delivery.
