Another
fantastic day beginning at 4.30am again. It began overcast with some
rain, but the cooler temperatures helped. Coming south from Olifants
Camp we passed baboons sleeping on the road and then a pack of hyenas
who had had a recent kill of a zebra foal. The pack was a Queen,
clearly dominant and heavily pregnant, her female attendants, three
cubs and a single male. Hyenas are a matriarchal society with the
line of succession passing from the Queen to her oldest daughter and
on.
In
the afternoon our highlights were seeing a pair of lions eating,
possibly a wildebeest from the dark colour, elephants and babies and
a group of rhinos and their calves cross the road in front of us.
We reached Berg-en-Dal (hills and valleys) Camp in the south east section of the park at 5.30pm which was an hour before sunset. Once again the bungalow was very comfortable and dinner in the restaurant rounded off a great day.
