Late
yesterday afternoon we checked out from Marina Hemingway ready to
begin our cruise long the north coast towards Cape San Antonio.
Paying our marina bill with a credit card wasn't as straight forward
as I had hoped. First thing to note is there is a 3% charge for
using a card and then my bank declined payment though a quick
satphone call to Visa card and the block they had put on my card was
lifted. Then it was back to the accounts lady where it took forever
for the credit card machine to connect. All the time I was thinking
is this going to go through or do I have to scramble to find cash?
The machine whirred out a receipt and anxiety levels dropped.
In
the morning we released our own lines, turned around in the canal and
proceeded to Customs dock to receive our Despacho for the next leg.
We nominated Cayo Levisa with an overnight in Bahia Honda 40nm from
Hemingway. Cayo Levisa is a resort island and has a Guarda presence
on the island. Making a stop at Bahia Honda broke the passage into
two day sails and avoided arriving in the dark.

Bahia
Honda is a big bay with wide open entrance and clear navigation aids.
We made our way to a spot on the east side of the inlet off the
abandoned Gaurda post now a home to visiting fishermen. Across the
channel was a ship breakers yard and that looked abandoned too.
There were at least half a dozen cargo ships and tankers in various
states of disassembly on the shore, but no sign of workers although
we did arrive late on Saturday afternoon and leave early Sunday
morning.
We
anchored at 22 58.29N 83 09.67 in 5m, probably mud and sand.
