8 November Escorted out of the country

On a bright and sunny morning we weighed anchor and set off for Bermuda. It takes more than two hours to transit the channel from Freedom Point to Cape Henry and to the open ocean. Norfolk is home to the largest naval dockyard in the world, home to numerous aircraft carriers, warships, submarines and ancillary vessels.

Understanding that commercial and naval traffic has priority in the shipping lane we were motoring outside the channel to the south and east of the green markers. First we were passed by a submarine and its escort of out riders. Then an incoming warship and an unidentified something else being towed by a tug in bound.
