3 September Lockdown

In the last month the numbers of people infected by Coronavirus has been increasing alarmingly. When we arrived in April there had been only 161 cases and 1 death.

It is commonly thought that the outbreak was centred on unauthorised carnival parties at the beginning of August. It is alleged some came in from neighbouring islands slipping past immigration and PCR testing by arriving by boat. Now with a largely unvaccinated population it is spreading fast, deaths are increasing.

The Government has acted by bringing in a daily curfew from 7pm to 5am, shelter in place at weekends, 90 minutes a day for exercise and the beach only open from 6am to 10am for swimming. Schools and non essential shops are closed, bars are closed, restaurants are restricted to take away only and large gatherings banned. We've seem a panicked onslaught on the supermarkets, long queues and shortages of some items like eggs. Why would eggs be particularly affected?

In the marina we are asked to shelter in place at the weekends by staying on our boats from 5pm Friday to 5am on Monday.  We can walk to the showers, but the pool is closed.  And the sundowner gatherings are now discouraged.  We all have to play our part in helping so we don't mind.
