16 March Sint Maarten memories

Whenever you revisit a place you're always wondering 'is that place still there?', 'do you remember cruisers Happy Hour at the Purple Turtle bar?

The Purple Turtle disappeared in the 2017 hurricane Irma.  A road bridge has been built across the inner lagoon to improve the link between Phillipsburg on the Dutch side and the airport on the French side, but many things were just the same. The Cruisers VHF net in the morning is still moderated by Mike of Shrimpy's. French side restaurant Tropicana, where we went with Matt Steadman of Mojomo continues to serve great French food and Lal's Indian curry shop by the airport is still making good, spicy chicken tikka masala.

What we were not expecting to find was an old friend we had met five years ago on another continent. On the net one morning we heard a call from a boat called 3 /4 Time. We met a boat called 3 /4 Time in Richards Bay, SAF. Could it be the same? Next day dinghying through Simpson Bay marina we saw the boat and it looked like the same one so we pulled alongside and called 'ahoy there' and out popped John.  It was our friend and flatteringly he remembered us straight away! I've said it before, it can be a small world. We spent a happy couple of hours chatting and reminiscing. It could have been much longer if we didn't have final purchases and errands prior to leaving tomorrow.
