31 April Diving Dominica

On the recommendation of friends we booked two days of diving with Cabrits Dive Centre. In Dominica diving is only allowed with a dive shop, independent diving is not permitted.

However, we were very happy with Cabrits and they showed us the most interesting sites which we wouldn't have found without them and we won't hesitate to recommend Virginie and Remi to our friends.

On day 1 David and I were the only guests and had a lovely first dive with Remi in Toucari Bay; barrels sponges and lots of soft corals on the reef finishing with a swim through an enormous split boulder at the foot of the cliff. Second dive is one of the well known ones on the north end of the island, Toucari Caves. More a swim through than a cave, about 15 long and home to many little lobsters along the sides and in a 'chimney' in the middle. To see these required turning onto your back and shining your torch on them. This explore was more focused on the smaller creatures such as shrimps and mini crabs but we did spot a number of well camouflaged stonefish.

For our second morning we were joined by two French guys on holiday and a local lady. All a delight to share the day with. The current was running fast for the first dive and we enjoyed a quick drift finishing on shallow reef underneath the dive boat. The second dive when the sun was higher in the sky was Douglas Bay Point poking in and around the boulders at the base of the cliff. Highlights were shrimps and boxer crabs in anemones and a school of twenty barracudas.

We agree this was the most enjoyable diving we've done in the eastern Caribbean to date.
