14 November Leaving Grenada to go north to Dominica

In recent weeks there has been a problem with the yacht club fuel supply. They order a small amount and it sells out quickly. Our tank is almost empty which means we have to co-ordinate a favourable forecast to sail north to Dominica with availability of diesel and be ready to go. And when you clear out you are eligible to buy duty free fuel, a significant saving when you're buying 550L.

Suddenly at 1pm we have a 'go' situation. Diesel is back in stock. I call in to the marina office to request our final last water and power readings and to prepare the invoice on the way to customs and Immigration in the next building. Here I wait over an hour for while the officials have an internal meeting. With clearance papers and a duty free fuel chit I return to the marina office to pay the bill I'd asked to be prepared earlier, except they haven't done it.

Finally, finally I am back at Jackster and David has us ready to slip lines. Engine on, lines retrieved and we're on our way until a new in line fuse on the battery bank trips when we use the bow thruster. The navigation instruments go off. Murphy's law! I take the wheel to steer us slowly out of the marina and David whips out the tool box and bypasses the blown fuse so that we have electric power and magically another disaster is averted.

Filling up with fuel and motoring out into St Georges Bay is quite straight forward. The plan is to anchor overnight and leaving tomorrow morning which should out us into Dominica the next afternoon.
