29 January Onwards to Antigua

Yesterday morning we cleared out of Guadeloupe at the office in Les Saintes and sailed / motored up the west coast to Pigeon Island.

On the way we passed Jeff Bezos' mega sailing yacht Koru, I understand it is the biggest sail boat in the world, anchored together with its support vessel with the helipad and all the toys.

There were many boats anchored at Pigeon in a narrow area between mainland and island limited by the Jacques Cousteau marine park no anchoring rule.

We found a spot with sufficient depth and swinging room which kept us outside the park limits but it was horribly rolly. With knowledge that there was a better protected spot 8 miles north at Point Ferry and with three hours of daylight left we made a decision. I wanted to pick up some final French provisions before Antigua and had been told there was a Carrefour supermarket close to the dinghy dock. David took me ashore and returned to Jackster to ensure all was safe there. I did an award winning supermarket sweep and was back on the dock calling for pick up before the ice cream has begun to melt.

Back on board (ice cream in the freezer) it was up anchor and onwards to a much calmer, less busy spot to sleep. And a shorter sail to Antigua next day.

Our sail to Antigua was one of the best; 50nm with15 knots on the beam, flat seas and clear skies all the way to Jolly Harbour where a non swelly anchorage awaited.
