Saturday 16 October Drift snorkelling

Starfish
Giant clam
We enjoyed a thrilling ride drift snorkel over coral heads on an incoming current. Between Foa island and the next small island to the north there is a shallow passage running from east to west. When we went today the waves were breaking over the reef from the open sea and spilling into the lagoon which was perfect and safe. We motored the dinghy through the pass, donned mask and snorkels, grabbed the painter, or rope tied onto the front of the dinghy, and slipped over the side. The ride started slowly drifting over sand 2m deep and then picked up speed over the coral heads for a thrilling ride. There were plenty of fish activity and the coral was in good condition. We had so much fun we went back and did it twice more.
