Today's
rally event was a Technical briefing with High Tea on the disco boat
in the marina. Are you noticing the connection here between cruisers
/ rally / food? Put food on the end of a line and you'll reel in the
cruisers.
The
serious part were presentations from the representative for another
rally which starts where S.E.M. (Sail East Malaysia) ends and will
take us via an arts festival in Sangihe (north of Sulawesi) through
to the hallowed dive destination on the west end of Papua, Raja
Ampat. From there we can link to the Sail Indonesia rally which will
bring us back to Singapore and Malaysia in November and incredibly
all of this is fee free and includes a complimentary three month
cruising permit saving $150. We're signed up; it ticks all the boxes
from visiting Raja Ampat, events, support for clearance and fee free
entry for the boat into Indonesia. A no brainer.
I think
I've jumped ahead too far. Back in the technical briefing Patrick
and Elizabeth from Labarque were sharing their years of knowledge on
cruising the east coast of the peninsula and across to Borneo. We
learnt that it's good to go up the rivers to see herds of pygmy
elephants but be aware there are river crocodiles, places to anchor
where proboscis monkeys are in the trees over your boat.
Then
high tea was served – a feast including the tastiest strawberries
dipped in white chocolate. Here's Bill and Sue (Camomile) with David
enjoying the refreshments.
