Thursday 25 June Transmission arrives

After waiting for three weeks since ordering our new transmission was finally delivered this afternoon.

While waiting I've relined all the curtains in our cabin, made new hatch covers, shopped (as you do), read, cleaned, met fellow cruisers for sundowners, enjoyed good meals in the town and set a date for my operation. David has continued with the never ending list of boat jobs and through it all we have sweated. The weather has changed to height of summer hot and humid. I feel so fortunate to have AC although we only use it at night in our cabin. Without it I'd die! Perhaps an over statement. It would be most uncomfortable.
Polly had a trip to the vet for annual update of vaccinations, a rabies shot and is now micro chipped and has her own passport. This is a precaution should we visit a country requiring formal documentation and her history of shots. It's a smart little book. David is quite jealous and having him micro chipped might not be a bad idea!
have passport, can travel

There have been visitors; two delightful students from the university begged an interview to canvass our reasons for visiting Labuan for an assignment. David met Azli while I was England. He likes to watch the sunset from the marina. Azli is a very clever man with his own printing business and plans to grow the business. He and David went out for a couple of meals while I was away so when we came back to Labuan we were happy to be able to invite him to dinner for an 'English' meal.

In the last week the Sail East Malaysia rally had a stop here and we met many good friends from last years' rally including Patrick and Elizabeth of Labrque and rally organiser, Sazli. Inevitably we have said goodbye to cruising friends who left to head east towards Kudat and Australia. We wish them all fair winds, kind seas and hope we keep in touch.

  1. Hi folks, sorry to hear of your transmission woes !! Glad its finally got to you, was worried why the blog hadn't been updated for a while. I'm sure the hip operation will go well, my dad has had two now, he feels like a new man - hope that doesn't happen to you !! Sounds like you are happy in that part of the world right now, Saol Eile are in Mauritius right now with generator problems so the gremlins are out there !! All the best in your travels - Simon

    1. Great to hear from you. Where are you now? Yes, I've been tardy in keeping up with the blog - sometimes nothing's happening and then we go flat out. The troughs and peaks of cruising. Now I've more time and will update the latest news. Very sorry to hear Saol Eile are having generator problems and hope they have it fixed now. Jacqui

  2. sorry to hear you need hip surgery, but sounds like you will take it in stride like all the other little bumps of cruising! you folks are certainly enjoying SE Asia - our trip was so quick through there as we moved on right after the first two, Indonesian and West Malaysian, rallies. We are in Barcelona now, just got back to the boat after 6 mo. hiatus in California dealing with family needs. We are anxious to get moving again! Nice to hear things are going well and that David kept so busy in your absence!

    1. You've travelled far and I envy your stay in Barcelona and after time away, good to be back on board. I hope you are enjoying the Med; quite different sailing to SEAsia I would imagine. Do you have plans to cross the Atlantic?
