All
too soon it's time to leave this lovely island. I could have spent
another week here; the diving is good and easy to find a company to
take us further than we could reach by dinghy. Every night we went
to a different restaurant and had some really good food, coffee shops
for an afternoon cappuccino and a friendly place. Checking out was
simple. At the moment there is only one immigration lady who works
twenty days and then takes ten days off. We went to see her the day
before she began her leave period, paid her $3 each and had our
passports stamped. Next door is the Port Captain who took our
clearance in papers and an hour later had the authority from mainland
Customs it was OK to present us with our clearance papers and no
charge.
The
distance from Utila to the outer reef of Belize is about 70 miles;
too much to cover leaving at dawn and to have good light to enter
through the reef. We opted to leave at dusk and arrive at dawn.
Farewell
Bay Islands of Honduras – the diving was the best we've experienced
in the Caribbean so far.
