Together with Inspiration Lady and Going South we hired a Hilux pick up and did an island tour, visited the out of town Yamaha dealer and the cash & carry warehouse.
Bonaire is an island of two halves; the south is flat and given over to salt production, pink lakes and small hills of white salt, the north rocky, greener and more houses. There were flamingos feeding in the salt lakes. These lakes are pink from the cretones which in turn give the flamingos their distinctive colour. Around the southern coastal road there were ospreys diving into the sea and into the lake. In the north part we went looking for blow holes and found only dead ends and old Indian inscriptions in the rocks and saw only cacti and iguanas.
Bonaire is no more than 10 miles long so doing the circuit didn't take long leaving the late afternoon for getting heavy shopping while we had truck. For Jackster's engine and generator we bought 3 gallons of oil and for us the 24 boxes of long life orange juice, 10lbs of flour for making bread etc and a couple of cakes because we're worth it. Buying and putting it in the truck is easy. Finding a parking spot close to the dinghy dock and then lugging boxes and bags across the road was less easy. Once your goods are on the dock it is a matter of careful stacking in the dinghy so we don't lose anything on the way back, or get it covered in seawater. I'm sure you've got the picture; shopping is a lot harder and more physical than when Tesco's delivered to the door.
