30 November 2009 Willemstad, Curacao

Monday morning and the pay bus into town was free today. The local oil refinery sponsors one route each week and lays on a complimentary bus. Not bad is it? We were on our way in to town for lunch with Jackie & Gary (Inspiration Lady) who came back from Canada at the weekend, Marion, Theo & Ceeys departing for Panama tomorrow (Marionetto) and Jack (Anthem) who we met same day we met the Inspiration Ladies.

We also had errands to do in town like the post office to send a postcard to my Mum & Dad. I try to send them one from every country so they can follow our progress and I believe their postman reads the cards too so can tell the rest of Kenilworth where we are. With time to spare before lunch I persuaded David to come clothes shopping with me. A couple of my vest tops are disintegrating from over use and required replacing. He's very patient, as patient as I am when we go to ironmonger's and chandlers, and we take 2 way radios so we can find the other if we want to browse in different shops. We take these 2 way radios when we go to the supermarket and it real helps; one can be off looking for elusive item while the other fills the trolley. Back to the shopping. I found two tops I needed and a pair of linen shorts I wanted.

We'd arranged to meet for lunch at our favourite place, a restaurant attached to the museum which does excellent food, good service and lets us pull tables together. Jackie and Gary looked well, a little dusty and tired at the edges because they are sanding & re anti fouling their hull this week. They'd brought us a new net book back from Canada so David & I now have a laptop each, his for navigation and boat stuff, mine getting old and may not last longer, and an Acer net book each. I am a devotee of my net book; smaller & lighter than a laptop it's far more portable and it has a longer battery life.

Stuffed after an enjoyable and lively lunch we headed to the bus stop to hop one of the local mini buses to the Xerox shop where we might have been investigating illicit copying. There is an excellent guide book for Panama, where we hope to be in early 2010, which has been out of print for over 2 years. It's the best for source of information for the San Blas islands and also a good source for the Canal. We've been searching for a copy through the islands so when we got to Curacao and found there was a copy on disk circulating we jumped at the chance. Some good person had an original and went to the trouble of photographing each page and saving it so disk to share. Bringing us to the Xerox centre to print off three copies for Insp. Lady, Anthem and us. This copy centre also keeps a copy on file of every sea chart they are asked to copy and then sell these to anyone who wants them for a much lower cost than an original. Unfortunately for us the man who provides this service was off sick and we'll have to go back later in the week.

Todays photo is taken from the guide to Panama and shows a few of the hundred islands that make up the San Blas. We're both very excited to be heading here after Cartagena, our next destination.
