Friday 25th June A visit from Customs

Three guys from the Customs office were doing spot checks in the anchorage and picked us as a victim. There are certain things you have to declare when you check in to Fr Polynesia, like drugs, alcohol, tobacco, firearms and pets. Drugs: we carry only medicines. Alcohol: we declared ships stores without being specific about quantities. Firearms; no. Pets: we entered the country without pets and haven't amended this so as the Customs boat was pulling alongside David shut Polly in a cupboard & I hid the litter box and food dish in the cockpit lazarette.

Actually the Customs guys were fine. As I presented our papers David diverted their attention talking about his bad back. Each of them had suffered sometime and were able to offer a recommendation for an osteopath nearby. After they'd left we found the cat sleeping on the pilot berth (she'd found an escape hole from the cupboard). How fortunate they didn't do an inspection. We'd have had to surprised and astonished at the sight of a cat. 'Who left that there?' we'd have said. All's well that ends well....
