Friday 9 July Bora Bora bound

A couple of days in Raiatea was sufficient. The winds had been blowing hard from the east meaning all the anchorages on the east side would have been very uncomfortable. We checked the weather forecast and found an opportunity to head to the famed Bora Bora 22 miles NE.

Bora Bora means 'new born'. The island is the remains of a volcanic crater surrounded by a lagoon and a fringing reef. We'll be here for the solar eclipse on Sunday morning, Bastille Day on 14th and then at least another week exploring the different anchorages.

We pulled into the Bora Bora Yacht Club anchorage one boat too late to take a mooring ball which is OK as we have plenty of chain to anchor in 25m while the little boat which came in ahead of us doesn't have enough for this depth. Our first sunset in BB was spectacular.
