Thursday 11 November Dinner aboard Mystery Ship

One of the smartest ways to save drain on your batteries is to swap regular incandescent bulbs which eat power for anorexic LED bulbs. The nice man at the electric shop here in Opua offers an overnight loan service allowing to test if the connections fit our sockets and if we liked the lights. The joy of light emitting diodes is they don't give out any heat and use a negligible amount of power meaning I can leave lights on, have all 3 overhead lights in the galley burning.
Getting over the joy of having lights I can turn on without guilt or fear of flattening the batteries we turned our thoughts to dinner aboard Mystery Ship. More like luxury ship compared to our sticks and string. Mystery Ship is a 64' power cruiser, big engine, gleaming chrome work, a proper kitchen and sofas and a dining table and chairs in the salon. Glen and Cindy, unlike us, don't get wet or cold on passage.
Cruisers call motor yachts 'stink pots'. Motor yachts call us 'poor relations'!
We first met them in Bora Bora at the yacht club and then coming down through the islands. Friendly as all Canadians are and really good fun to spend an evening with. These usually turn into long evenings and tonight was no exception. Since my watch battery died I've stopped being aware of time. It felt like 10pm when we left but was actually midnight. What dirty stop outs we are!
