| dredger wreck |
After
last nights' over indulgence of gin and home brew it was sore heads
for us this morning. Note to self – the last glass of wine is
always one too many. We spent the day with Steve and Helen; ashore
in the morning to visit Tangalooma holiday resort and after lunch
David provided surface cover in the dinghy while Helen, Steve and I
snorkeled on the wrecks. He was there until it started pouring with
rain and then he repaired back to Jackster for a coat and continued
his watch throw binoculars. He didn't miss anything of wonder on the
snorkelling; strong winds over the last two days had blown up the
seas and the visibility underwater was reduced to 2m. You could see
dark shadows of metal and the fish were very friendly, lots of them,
but there could have been a tiger shark on my shoulder and I wouldn't
have seen it. I don't think there are tiger sharks here, but there
are loggerhead turtles and dugongs.
Since
we've known Helen and Steve we've enjoyed many dives together. I
remember them coming to get us in South Fakarava, Tuamotas to go swim with the
sharks. Now Dignity is for sale they've cleared all their personal
gear off her except for their dive kit. They haven't been able to
sell the tanks or gear. The tanks require an Australian safety
inspection before they can get air fills. The upshot is Steve asked
us to take it all and if we can find new owners amongst the cruising
community to do so. We found space in the (metaphorical) garage for
the tanks, the loft for the BCDs and the extra large kit bag with
regulators went in the priest hole. If any of our cruising friends
who are reading this are interested in giving any of this kit a new
home, please get in touch.
