picnic in the park |
As
part of the three week long Sydney festival there are three free
concerts in the Domain. Tonight's line up was three soul divas from
America, none of whom we'd heard of before. We'd arrived a couple of
hours early with Sue and Bill from Camomile to bag a good spot and we
did, close to the stage and close to one of the big screens.
The
support band, Slowpoke Mahoney, were forgettable but the three divas
were wonderful. It was a show of verve, dynamism and pure talent;
Angelique Kidjo sang the gospel of African rhythms, Dianne Reeves the
American gospels and the star for us, Lizz Wright with a voice of
honey and effortless style.
