Sunday 20 January Attack of the killer cockatoos

Sulphur crested cockatoos. Cheery, intelligent birds or hooligans? From our experience, hooligans. Our local flock enjoy a screeching fly past around first light with an occasional landing on the top of the mast, or the spreaders, or perhaps some acrobatics on the forestay. Apart from the poop that splatters the deck below, that would be OK but these feathered vandals pull the cups off the wind indicator, strip the covering off the aerial which is great to cling onto and bounce and they peck and rip the headsail! David has a new all time record for getting from bed to on deck where he slaps the mast or shakes the shrouds to chase them away. They finally leave, laughing as they go because they know they'll be back.
