Smith's Creek |
The mooring ball we are
on is in the last deep water of the creek, from here upstream the
depth is under 1m and frequently down to half a metre; a perfect trip
to make in the kayak! Our bright pink kayak has carried us up many
shallow rivers and onto rocky beaches where the dinghy can't reach.
We also like the silence of paddling, no engine pollution to scare
the wildlife. I think we must have made it a mile upstream in
continually narrowing channel and shallow water. On the bank we saw
a large lizard – better than a large crocodile which is the
prospect should we be mad enough to do the same in northern
Queensland (I'm sure I'm sane so I'm not canoeing anywhere with the
slightest chance of a croc).
