Tuesday 19 February Newport, Broken Bay

The threat of impending scurvy has forced us back to civilisation to restock with fresh green stuff and fruit. We headed down river, back towards the ocean and turned right in the just inside the entrance into Pittwater. This is where the TV show Home & Away is filmed near Palm Beach and where the shores are crammed with luxury homes and apartments. Some parts are v chi chi.
David, Franny, Mary, Peter

As we cruised down the channel we spotted a boat in a marina which we thought we knew. It's wasn't Aurora B we were looking for but another friend, Tenaya, who we last saw in South Island, NZ. No-one was home so we carried on for another mile to the absolute limit of Pittwater. With all these houses, hundreds of boats and lots of marinas there must be a small supermarket or grocery store. We picked up a vacant mooring buoy (apparently to pick up a private mooring, as long as it is a short stop and you leave if owners return is absolutely acceptable here) and had lunch.
After we had searched the shore line with binoculars looking for likely shops and found nothing I was idly looking at the boats coming and going and realised one of the boats coming in was cruising friends we haven't seen for over a year – Peter and Mary on Asolare. It didn't take us long to pootle over to say ahoy there! A surprised and smiling Peter and Mary hulloed us back. They pointed to an elegant shore side villa up the hill and said come on over so we took the dinghy to their private dock and joined them. It was Mary's 70th birthday at the weekend and to celebrate she's rented the house for two weeks as a base for family and friends to visit. We must have behaved ourselves because we're invited back tomorrow for a beach visit and dinner in the evening.
Scantily clad surf life rescue
It was a beautiful evening to have a barbecue in the cockpit and watch the toned surf life rescue hunks skull past wearing nothing more than a smile and teeny weeny swim thongs.
