Our night anchored in
the main channel just off the Royal Prince Albert Motor YC had been
quiet. A few speed boats came close to look and gave us a gentle
rock but all is safe here. Mary and Peter may be septuagenarians but
they have the energy of people twenty years younger, ambassadors for
living your life to the full. They suggested Whale beach on the
ocean side of Palm beach spit where we plunged into the breakers,
Mary had her body board for surfing, and swam in sea mindful to stay
within the dive flags and under the watchful eye of the surf rescue
as there are dangerous undertow currents here. There are also blue
bottle jelly fish – small and painful if their tentacles touch.
Poor David will remember his first immersion in Australian water –
he got stung mildly on his forearm by a jellyfish. He said it itched
for a while and it was slightly swollen for the rest of the day.
Fortunately his sting
didn't ruin the day and he was well enough for dinner in the evening
– a treat of Beef Wellington and lively chat around the table.
I don't know when we'll
see Asolare again. I hope we do, they plan to sail to Tasmania and
then back north and across to New Caledonia and Vanuatu while we are
going into SE Asia.
