Friday 19 April Fraser Island

dolphin watching in flat seas
To arrive at the infamous Wide Bay Bar at the southern entrance to the inside passage of Fraser island on a flood tide we left Mooloolaba at 4.30am wending our way down the river in the darkness. The exit from there was remarkably straight forward. Our sail up to Double Island Point a joy of fine sailing in nil swell and the crossing of Wide Bay Bar perfectly simple in very good conditions, that is minimal swell and light northerlies as the wind had backed two hours before we arrived. Our crew members, Prudence and Patience had completed their mandate once more for an enjoyable passage.
In the protected waters between the mainland and Fraser island we motored up to Garry's anchorage just in time to settle in and enjoy a cold G&T as the sunset over the mangroves. Unfortunately a family of mosquitoes also thought it was a good place for the sunset and we were soon driven down below to escape our unwanted visitors.
