Heading
off in the dinghy for a look see at this part of Fraser Island we
came across two yachts flying the familiar Coastal Cruising Club (of
Australia) burgee. Familiar from a delightful weekend we spent with
club members in Coasters Retreat, Pittwater at the beginning of
March. With great generosity we were invited to join their club pot
luck dinner on the beach on a very wet and cold Saturday night. The
weather may have been cold, but the welcome was very warm so we were
delighted to find Chilli Heat (Bruce & Sue) and Circe (John &
Jane) in the same anchorage today.
We
caught up with the four of them in the time honoured cruiser
tradition of chatting over the water as we drift along in our
dinghies in the current. In fact it was Bruce, who is Vice Comm of
CCC who suggested Garry's anchorage to us as a good place to stop at
Fraser island.
When
we woke this morning it had been our plan to cross the Sandy Straits
on this afternoons high water, but our plan's tend to be somewhat
less than rigid, we prefer to think of ourselves as flexible, so when
Bruce and Sue invited us to join them and Circe for dinner aboard
Chilli Heat tonight and then to show us their tried and tested route
through the shallow straits on Monday morning's high tide our
original idea to move north today was defenestrated.
It
was an excellent decision; a lovely evening of lively chat and
Bruce's wonderful cooking.
