A
small armada of boats left Cairns this morning on the continuing
journey north. We still have to finish our list of boat projects.
We're certainly in the finishing straight now. There was a third day
of whizzing between suppliers on our bikes. We commented that our
bikes, bought second hand in Grenada three years ago are one of the
best and most useful toys we have on board. We use them more than we
use our dive kit. If we'd had to walk the miles we've cycled in the
last three days we'd still be on the way to somewhere. David
collected the new coaxial cable he needed to finish the improvement
on the AIS. The job is now completed. The broken gas strut on the
engine room door (faulty for over a year) has been replaced with a
new one. The generator switches off on first push rather than 30th
and the food stores are looking good. It's easy to take stores on
board here in Cairns where the supermarket is only 5 minutes (with
trolleys available to borrow) from the marina than Darwin where we
understand the dinghy dock is a 40 minute walk from town centre.
When I shopped in Panama before crossing the Pacific we provisioned
for 6 months. From here we have a month to get around to Darwin and
then three months until we arrive in Singapore. With David's ability
to catch fish we won't starve.
