On
our way into town this morning we stopped at the Komodo Dancer dive
boat to see if any of the crew who we met were still working on the
boat. After 7 years it was all change but we learnt that the steward
from our trip, Sebastian, was living and working here in Labuan Bajo.
Better than that they had his phone number and we've arranged to
meet at 6 o'clock this evening.
In
the meantime stopping in the Swiss bakery we struck up a conversation
with an older couple from Pakistan who are travelling around
Indonesia. Sometimes a friendship can begin in less than a minute
and this one did. Almas and Qamar are retired, widely travelled and
once lived in London so there were things in common. Almas is a
sailor too, sailing near his home in Karachi. Over a cold beer we
exchanged stories and we invited them to come and have tea on board
Jackster so they could see our home afloat. Qamar is such a sweet
lady and a keen photographer and took many photos while she was with
us.

As
usual we ran out of time and had to hurry back to shore for our meet
up with Sebastian. We were only half an hour late and he was waiting.
As soon as we saw him it was instant recognition. He does have the
most amazing memory. We'd brought a laptop and the DVD David made of
our trip on Kdance which includes an episode of Sebastian water
skiing on a surf board behind the rib. He loved to see it. His
memory is so good he could even remember the other guests on our same
trip. A lovely guy and now happily married with two young daughters.
