We finally make it into the anchorage
at Belitung just after sunset. One of our longest passages in recent
times but we're still cheerful and happy to be here and safe on
anchor except we dropped the hook in 8m of water and then found we
were sitting in 4m over a rock reef and had to move forward.
It's been a day of challenges.
Insufficient wind to sail so we motor. Then wind and current on the
nose. Next up are squalls and 25 knots of wind. I wonder if we'll
make the anchorage before dark. David's still working on our engine
/ fuel problem. Running the engine with a diesel feed direct from a
jerry can and thus eliminating the tank and a primary Raccor filter
keeps the engine running sweetly although at no more than 1600 revs.
Finally the wind comes from the right direction and quite strongly so
we are able to fly along for the last two hours of our 270 mile
passage. No shortening of sail for us – we'll take all we can get.
The sun is just dipping below the
horizon as we arrive and drop the anchor. Now David can do his work
is relatively more comfort and a much cooler engine room. We're both
too tired to go ashore for the gala dinner being hosted by the local
community and fall into to bed soon after dinner.
