Our challenge continue. With light
winds we sail when we can. The twin headsails which allow us to sail
downwind on light airs are our saviours which keep us moving along,
albeit at a gentle pace. David patiently continues with our
errant fuel / engine testing and eliminating each element of the
system. It's frustrating because each time he thinks he's found the
fault we run the engine only to discover it was a false hope as the
motor loses it's drive until it stalls then it's back to the drawing
board for the next possible. For the technical minded, it seems we
have two issues, each of which could starve the engine of fuel.
First could be dirty diesel clogging the filters, second is air is
getting into the system ( we see bubbles on the fuel return pipe
which takes unused fuel from the engine back to the fuel tank. Both
give fuel starvation in the injector pumps which drive the engine.
Could it be a faulty lift pump, faulty injector pump, dirty
injectors, a bad seal, all of the above or another problem. David is
probably the best mechanic I know and knows our engine better than
anyone else in Indonesia so we do have the best man available on the
job. His costs are most reasonable too, a supply of cold drinks and
an occasional meal, plus the attendance of an able apprentice to
pass, fetch and hold for the same price. We remain optimistic of a
fix soon. Fingers crossed.
