Saturday 14 December Langkawi cable car

From the beach in Telaga bay it's a ten minute walk to the foot of the cable car which whizzes you 700m above sea level. The cable car trip takes less than ten minutes. The queue to get on was 2 hours on this particular Saturday morning. Our fault for turning up at the weekend. We pondered coming back on Monday but that would entail waiting two days compared with two hours. To fill the time we wandered (you are given a boarding time when you buy the tickets) around the attached tourist village of duty free shops. Nestled amongst the shops and half hidden in a back street was the Langkawi visitors information with displays of the geology of the island and a half hour film showing highlights of it's natural wonders. This helped pass the time as did chatting to a man with a cobra. He charged for photos so we asked him about his snake, admired her iridescent sheen and stroked her soft skin.
Finally our time came around and we reached the mountain top for views across the island and a most welcome cool breeze. In the far distance we could pick out the islands of Thailand 25 miles away where we are bound shortly. There is a suspended walkway across a gorge here but it's been closed for maintenance for two years and is expected to be closed for a long while yet. As someone said, typical local maintenance; forget about it. Not something we have the luxury of on a boat.
Back on board mid afternoon I read for a while and David did maintenance.
