The
big blow is over and we have back the regular 15 knot north east
trade winds. Time to move on to a new spot, or rather re-visit
because we anchored here nine years ago.
We
like Green island because the anchorage has two lines of reef between
it and the open ocean, a big basin for many boats to find plenty of
space and an uninhabited island to walk on. If you had a SIM card
you could also have internet. We are having a month without Google
and Facebook.
I
like Green Island because I can kayak around it and around the nearby
reefs. The water is beautifully clear for swimming and the current
is mild. On the island there is a fresh water well. We tested it
with the salinity monitor and the PPM was 450. In the US drinking
water has to be less than 500 PPM to be acceptable. However, it may
not be salty, but we're not sure how of the drinking quality. I saw
one lady using the water in a tub to do her laundry and then hanging
a washing line between coconut trees to dry it. The same lady then
used the water for a shower and to wash her hair. I think the sand
and plant roots must the salt from the seawater because the level is
sea level.
