Solomon's Island is a misnomer; not an island at all. The town is on a spit on land and separating the smaller river and with its many marinas from the larger Patuxent river. A Mr Solomon established an oyster cannery here many years ago.
This is our second visit and a return is always more comfortable than a first arrival when deciding where to anchor. We anchored in an area where the river is widest opposite the Calvert Maritime Museum at 38 19.91N 076 27.56W in 4m depth.
Little has changed. It's still a quiet and protected spot. There are still otters at the museum and a handy dinghy dock at Anglers restaurant from where you can walk to West Marine chandlery.
We stayed three days while the wind was coming from the north and once it returned to southerlies we continued round to Herring Bay,
