When we were in the Caymans a fellow boater recommended Herrington Harbor North as a decent place to haul out. Herrington Harbor North is up a channel in the north part of Herring Bay. We'd been warned that the channel carries no more than 2.1m and less between dredging.
As this was a look-see visit and we judged it to be low water we decided to anchor Jackster outside and take the dinghy to have a look. It was a good call because our hand held depth sounder indicated we'd having been stuck in the mud this afternoon with depths of just 1.8m in the centre of the channel.
HHN is a large and attractive yard with a resort attached. The man we spoke to was most helpful, the rates comparable to Peakes in Trinidad, there are many contract services and a West Marine on site. All sounds good except the yard don't allow you to stay onboard when you're out of the water and although easy to get to from the water, if you need supplies it is a long way to the nearest town. Plus there's the consideration of needing high water to pass through the channel. This is the first haul out yard we've looked at so plenty to consider.
