The poor Kiss wind generator ground to a halt on the way here. Today was our first opportunity to discover why and to rectify the fault.
It has converted wind into power for us since September 2009 when Gary on Inspiration Lady brought it to us in Margarita, Venezuela from Trinidad where Kiss were manufactured. The company was bought by another company and now I believe has ceased trading. We've had a love hate relationship with the darn thing. It wouldn't switch off in high winds. We lost the tail and a blade in a weather bomb in New Zealand one night. It has fouled the mizzen ballooner sail on a number of occasions and had the stator and blades replaced.
When David opened it up (having brought it back to deck level) the question was what would he find? He found the magnets inside had shattered into many pieces. Through use and age they had worn out and without the possibility of readily available replacement magnets the cost / effort ratio rendered one more repair unfeasible.
Therefor today we kiss goodbye to our Kiss wind generator. May it rest in peace in the dumpster.
