Today we had an appointment at the Old Post Office in Hamilton for our Day 4 Covid tests. Hamilton is south west of St George's in the geographical centre of the island and easily reached by bus. We bought our bus tokens at St George's post office and hopped on the #10 to town with the social distancing policy of using only every other seat. I worked out this was our first trip on public transport since February when Coronavirus was just a side issue in the news.
Having the test was fast leaving us plenty of time to check out the city. It's not very big and the museums are currently closed. What we did find on our walking tour was the ruins of mid 19th century Fort Hamilton on top of the tallest hill, the cathedral (closed) wandering into the Supreme Court, literally as the door was unlocked, chatted with the Governor's chauffeur at The Cabinet Building and gave a small whoop of delight at discovering not only a Marks & Spencer store, but an M&S with a food hall with shelves on Christmas fare. David hasn't tasted Christmas pudding since we started sailing and he had only had mince pies when we were in South Africa. I couldn't deny him a treat could I?
Late afternoon we hopped the bus back to St George's with a bag of groceries from the supermarket and a bag filled with the largest Christmas pudding and boxes of mince pies. Not too sure what this says about Hamilton or us that the food goodies were a highlight.
When
we got back to the boat Polly was thrilled with her present of a new
bag. She didn't give a fig about the human food. The Arts Centre Hamilton cathedral Fort Hamilton Supreme Court building inside the Supreme Court Cabinet House
