St Pierre definitely isn't our favourite stop. Heavy swells and a high concrete pier for dinghies. We had to be very careful when leaving our dinghy to prevent it being swept under the dock. One dinghy wasn't as lucky...a group of five backpackers from the boat anchored next to us had come ashore to do laundry. While they were away the dinghy was dragged under the dock in the surge and the outboard motor broken.
When we came back to the dock having cleared out to leave tomorrow (just after watching the yacht floundering in the surf after it's mooring broke) we found two girls and a guy with head in hands wondering how to fix their motor and how to get back to their boat.
The rain clouds were gathering, We offered to give them a lift and tow their dinghy. When they revealed there were two more girls in town and five bags of laundry we explained our dinghy was too small to safely carry this load. One girl and her boyfriend chose to remain and wait for their friends while we took the other girl and towed their dinghy. On the way, and it was almost ten minutes with a heavy tender to tow, the deluge began. It didn't take long to be fully soaked.
David offered to go back to pick up the rest, but the offer was declined. We lifted our dinghy in readiness for leaving next morning. It took five hours for the rest of the backpackers to get back to their boat, sadly with sodden laundry. They're young. I'm sure it was just one of those character building incidents we've all encountered...live, laugh and learn.
