26 August Surgery

I arrived back in Grenada on 23rd. Next day David had another appointment with his Cuban doctor. On a previous visit she had commented on two moles, one above each ear, which she had recommended David take a blood test for analysis for cancer. Although the results were negative she continued to recommend removal with the samples to go to the local lab for biopsy. I should mention here that Dr Dunia Ortiz was a practising surgeon in her native Cuba for many years and this was a routine procedure for her.

We visited her at the surgery and an hour later the moles were sitting in a sample jar and the holes stitched up. Not only was I allowed to watch, I took photos (for posterity) and at one point assisted in holding a cloth.

Results of the biopsies are expected in 3 to 4 weeks*.

* the results were delivered after 8 weeks. The largest lesion was clear, but the smallest was showing the presence of tumerol cells and a clear margin, ie doc got it all out.

mole 1 - benign

mole 2 - basal cell carcenoma

mole 1 removed

mole 2 removed
