Second day of our car rental and today is for exploring the right hand side of the butterfly. Guadeloupe island is compared to the outline of a butterfly with its wings open; to the west is the higher part, Basse Terre and to the east of a north-south channel is low lying Grande Terre. Along the south coast of Grande Terre we drove through seaside resorts named Le Gosier, Saintes-Anne and Saint-Francois, and on the inland roads through fields of sugar cane, the primary cash crop.
We
visited the wild east end, Pointe des Chateaux where the Atlantic
waves crashed onto the rocky beach, the most northerly town,
Anse-Bertrand where all was calm.
