A chance
conversation earlier in the week with a cruiser who mentioned they
were going to have their scuba tanks pressure tested lead us to
consider whether we should too. We bought them in Florida before we
set off and have used then for 15 years. So far we've not needed to
have them tested and date stamped because David fills them. However,
it felt like good practice to have them done now for our peace of
mind; to know if they are fit for purpose and won't split, burst or
even kill us!the testing kit
Conveniently there is a large commercial company nearby that supplies gases and tests tanks to the whole island including oxygen cylinders for the hospitals. We enquired, were happy with the quote and dropped them off. Three days later they were ready to collect with certificates of testing stamped 'passed' and the date stamped on each tank. This will be valid for five years should we ever need to have them filled by a commercial outfit.
