Quiet day after some busy diving days. I went into town in the morning to buy postcards and groceries and vainly looking for an internet cafe while David stayed on board doing boat jobs. Later in the afternoon we went out to buy David some new sandals. A year ago he came out with two pairs that had cost an extravagant £3 a pair from the outlet centre. One pair he walked through the sole so we had to bin and the second pair the top parted from the sole when we walking through mud on the Angel Falls trip. We'd been told about the Chinese import export warehouse on the edge of town and thought we'd give it a try as they always have something you want but don't particularly need. We ticked off an item from the need list, boats slippers for David. During the day the decks can get very hot , to the point of burning your soles. I have flip flips to wear and David needed something similar. After need came wandering. I found a delightful floral patterned mosquito net for our bed (when we were in Los Roques lots of mozzies in the boat at night despite fly screens on every window) and David was thrilled with an electronic fly swatter shaped like a tennis racquet. This must be a deluxe model because it has a white flash light to attract the nasties and a red beam for lasering them and can be recharged from the mains. He squats it around and when it comes into contact with a target ZAPPPPP! Dead fly / mosquito / no see um. No so good when he accidentally caught my finger in it. I am very pleased not to be a flying pest because it was quite a shock. Though now I can threaten him when he's misbehaving :)
We strolled home in the last few rays of the day clutching our new shoes and pest control looking forward to a killing frenzy of biting bugs.
