Monday, 15 March Survivor

Have you ever seen the TV reality / contest show Survivor? Our anchorage today is between the two islands used in the programme, Mogo Mogo and Chapera. They are pretty islaands with white beaches and lots of rocks uncovered ar low tide and perfect for rock pooling. We kayaked from one island to the other to explore and didn't find any evidence this had been a TV set. The programme makers must have had to clear away the buildings. In common with all islands there was a large amount of jetsam, plastic bottles, plastic shoes, plastic bags, washed ashore.
We took the kayak through the mangroves, over a sand bar at one point to get to the other side of a headland and then back to Chapera where we were anchored. By this time our friends on Bristol Rose and Inspiration Lady had arrived. Yesterday the sons on Bristol Rose had caught lots of fish and we were all invited to a beach barbecue to share in the feast. As the sun was going down the fire was going and the fish on the grill as we sat on tree trunks with our feet in the soft sand, the tree branches around us festooned with our bags (useful to keep ants and other bugs out). No moon tonight but lots of stars with the Southern Cross visble in the south, the Pole Star in the north and Orion overhead. Everytime we gaze at the stars we promise ourselves to learn a few more constellations, but like the stars, our resolve fades in the daylight. Perhaps tomorrow I'll find time...
