Friday 4 June Onwards to Fakarava south pass

Look! no tank
The water rushes in and out of the atoll passes either into, or out of, the open ocean between high and low tides which attracts an amazing amount and variety of sea life. The water of the incoming tide is crystal clear, the coral abundant and the sharks unafraid. As one friend would say 'It's shark City down there.' We snorkelled and next day dived the south pass of Fakarava on the incoming tide and it was a spectacular show. The sea floor was a moving mass of fish hanging in the current and 20 or 30 sharks cruising around above them. They are reef sharks, white tips, black tips and the occasional larger silver tip and definitely not interested in us.
White tip

(Friends dived the same site a week later and there were 200 sharks hanging in the current. It's the mating season and they've come in too hook up.)
