Saturday 5 June Dinner with sharks on the side

Near the south pass there is a small house with a restaurant attached. As so few people visit a meal is arranged when there is demand. The owner, Manihi, offered to prepare a meal for 18 people. We arrived as the sun was setting and navigated into the dock between coral heads. In front of the eating area is a shallow lagoon which Manihi lights at night so you can see the small sharks swimming in knee high water. Were they waiting for a well fed cruiser to fall in later?

Our meal was three types of fish, a poisson cru which is raw fish 'cooked' in lemon juice, gougons of grouper and sea snails in garlic butter. Who'd have thought it? Only the French. There was lots of salad, rice and bread and a yummy pineapple cake to finish. Beautiful food in a wonderful reef side setting.
