Friday 5 July North Goulburn Island

sunset at Goulburn
The distance from Hole in the Wall western anchorage to North Goulburn island is 175nm, or a two day / one overnight sail. There was more good sailing; kind seas and winds, a clear night and catching a Pacific Bluefin tuna on the second day.
South and North Goulburn islands are aboriginal lands. There's a settlement on South island and North is a sacred site where we would not be welcome to set foot. Instead we found a fine, protected anchorage on the south and western side and settled in with Stefan and Wendy on Julianna II as our buddies for the night the rest of the fleet having opted for a straight run into Darwin.
The Jackster mission statement is 'to sail around the world visiting as many places as possible'. Why rush on when we still have the time to stop and smell the eucalyptus? And it was a perfect evening; calm water, a beautiful red island to the east, sun setting in the west and sushi dinner made with our fresh caught tuna. Not bad.
